Tuk-Tuk Orchestra

First presented in 2021, Teatro Tuk-Tuk is a mobile theatrical structure inspired by traditional puppetry, mechanical toys and the travelling puppet theatres once common in Portugal. Commissioned by Marcelo Lafontana, I developed an animatronic orchestra of wooden puppets, combining traditional puppetry with mechanical and digital technologies. Each puppet is driven by a motor connected to a mechanical pulley system. An Arduino-based control system integrates MIDI, allowing each puppet to be assigned to a musical track and synchronised with a composition. The system can also be controlled in real time, enabling live performances and interaction between music and mechanical movement.

Direction, dramaturgy and performance - Marcelo Lafontana; Scenography and props - Pedro Morim; Musical direction - Eduardo Patriarca; Lighting, sound and machinery - Pedro Cardoso; Interactive system and multimedia content - Luís Grifu; Digital animation - Wlamir Batista
